The Sign is Covivio’s urban regeneration project to transform the area where Vedani Foundry used to be located back in the 1950s into a Business District designed for business and to serve the city. The Sign now includes three office buildings, the headquarters of the multinationals Aon and NTT Data, a public square named after Fernanda Pivano, green spaces for the community and a wide range of retail outlets. Over 27,000 square metres focused on change.
Room for new
opportunities
‘The Sign’ keeps on growing: the works in progress to construct a new building that will house the new headquarters of L’Oréal Italia from the end of 2024 is a natural design development on what has already been built. The project also includes the creation of a new square and a tree-lined area, a perfect place for relaxation, recreation and leisure, an intimate and highly eye-catching space for taking a break in the shade of birch trees.
An idea
that leaves a mark
The most distinctive feature of the project created by Progetto CMR – Massimo Roj Architects is ‘The SIGN’, a common thread that visually unites the buildings and public spaces. The sign originates from the pedestrian flow coming from Romolo underground station. It then crosses the buildings and square and creates a path formed by materials and traces of light on the pavement.
On the façades, ‘the sign’ emerges in the luminous glass curtain wall extending between interruptions in the metal ‘skin’. This one simple gesture holds the project together, reconnects it with its context, and makes it clearly identifiable.
A trendy
hub
The Sign is located in the south-west section of Milan in an area that is well connected and served by public transport. The campuses of IULM and NABA universities make this a lively area full of cultural opportunities, while green areas make it more pleasant to live in.
